Transforming lives through holistic and sustainable interventions.

Education and Empowerment
At Bread and Book Foundation (BBF India), education opens the door to dignity and opportunity. Through Project Vidya and Project Hope, we work to ensure that children from underserved communities are not denied learning due to poverty or lack of resources. These initiatives are designed to create supportive learning environments where children are encouraged to grow with confidence and purpose.
We provide essential educational support such as school supplies, uniforms, textbooks, and access to basic digital learning tools. Our digital literacy initiatives help children—especially those in rural and marginalized areas—develop foundational skills needed to thrive in today’s world.
BBF places strong emphasis on educating and empowering girls by promoting equal access to learning and creating safe spaces that encourage continued schooling. Alongside education, we support families through skill-based livelihood initiatives, helping build stability at home so children can remain in school. Through Project Vidya and Project Hope, education becomes a powerful foundation for lasting change for children, families, and communities.

Basic needs and Immediate Relief
At Bread and Book Foundation (BBF India), we believe that dignity begins with meeting basic human needs. Through our Sarva Aahaar project , we provide nutritious meals to children and families who face food insecurity, ensuring no one goes hungry during difficult times. For families living on the margins, everyday life is shaped by uncertainty—where access to food, health, warmth, and hygiene cannot be taken for granted. BBF steps in during these moments of vulnerability to provide timely support that helps children and families regain stability and security.
Our approach to immediate relief is rooted in compassion and responsiveness. Whether addressing ongoing hardships or sudden crises, we work closely with communities to ensure essential needs are met in a respectful and practical manner. By supporting households during periods of food insecurity, health challenges, seasonal extremes, or emergency situations, we help reduce the pressures that often push children out of school and families deeper into poverty.
Beyond short-term assistance, BBF’s relief efforts aim to restore a sense of normalcy and resilience. When families are supported through difficult times, children are better able to return to learning, caregivers can focus on rebuilding their livelihoods, and communities can begin to recover with confidence. Through this integrated approach, BBF ensures that immediate relief is not just a response to crisis, but a foundation for long-term well-being and opportunity.

Health and Special Care
Health quietly shapes every child’s ability to learn, grow, and dream. Even minor, untreated illnesses can disrupt schooling, weaken confidence, and place families under immense strain. At Bread and Book Foundation (BBF India), we recognize that educational progress is deeply connected to physical well-being, especially in rural and underserved communities where access to healthcare remains limited.
BBF’s health-related efforts focus on improving access to basic medical support through community-based initiatives. With the support of doctors and dedicated volunteers, we have conducted small-scale health awareness programs and provided essential medicinal support in rural villages. These efforts help families address common health concerns early, reducing preventable complications and easing the burden on caregivers.
As part of our evolving commitment to child well-being, BBF is working toward structured medical check-up and medicine distribution campaigns in rural areas. These initiatives aim to promote early detection, basic treatment, and health awareness—ensuring children are healthier, more consistent in school, and better equipped to thrive.
We also place importance on dignity and care for children facing additional vulnerabilities. Through health education, community engagement, and supportive interventions, BBF seeks to create safer environments where children can grow with confidence and families feel supported.

Large-Scale Solutions
Sustainable change requires long-term, community-led solutions. At Bread and Book Foundation (BBF India), we envision impact that goes beyond individual interventions—toward transforming entire communities through inclusive and practical development.
As part of this vision, BBF is working toward a future Adopt-a-Village Initiative, designed to support villages holistically by addressing essential needs such as shelter, access to clean water, clothing, nutrition, education, and livelihoods. This initiative aims to be built in close partnership with local communities, where residents actively participate in identifying needs, planning solutions, and sustaining progress. By grounding development in local knowledge and ownership, we hope to create models that are resilient and self-sustaining.
Looking ahead, BBF also seeks to strengthen its impact through collaboration and advocacy—working alongside government bodies, partner organizations, and supporters to scale inclusive approaches to education, health, and basic living conditions. Through these combined efforts, BBF aims to move from relief to transformation, creating pathways for villages not just to survive, but to thrive over time.
Our Recent Project
Stories from the Ground
Preveshanolsavam 2026
A New Beginning of Hope and Learning
The inauguration of Preveshanolsavam 2026 at GVHSS Palode marked the beginning of a new academic journey filled with hope, dreams, and opportunities for young learners. Organised in collaboration with Bread and Book Foundation (BBF), the programme brought together educators, community leaders, parents, and children to celebrate the transformative power of education. The event created an inspiring atmosphere where every child was welcomed into the world of learning with encouragement, care, and a renewed sense of confidence.
As part of the initiative, BBF distributed complete educational kits to 56 children entering First Standard, ensuring that they begin their school life equipped with all the essentials they need. Each kit included a school bag, notebooks, stationery, lunch box, water bottle, umbrella, and other learning materials, easing the burden on families and empowering children to step into the classroom with pride and excitement. More than a distribution programme, Preveshanolsavam 2026 was a celebration of equal opportunities—reinforcing the belief that every child deserves the tools, support, and encouragement to learn, grow, and build a brighter future.

Aksharam Project 2026
Where Every School Bag Carries a Dream
For many children from tribal communities, the start of a new academic year often comes with uncertainty—not because of a lack of ambition, but because essential school supplies remain beyond their family's reach. Through Aksharam 2026, Bread and Book Foundation transformed this reality by ensuring that every child could walk into the classroom with confidence, dignity, and hope. Conducted on 24 May 2026 at Vithura Grama Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and inaugurated by MLA G. Stephen, the initiative provided complete educational kits containing school bags, notebooks, stationery, umbrellas, tiffin boxes, and all the essentials needed for a successful academic year.
What made Aksharam 2026 truly special was not just the distribution of educational materials, but the joy and optimism it brought to hundreds of families. With more than 400 participants, including over 200 parents and their children, the event became a powerful reminder that education has the ability to change lives and create opportunities where none seemed possible. The smiles on the faces of children receiving their kits reflected more than happiness—they reflected renewed confidence, encouragement, and the belief that their dreams matter. Through Aksharam 2026, BBF India reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring that no child's future is limited by poverty.

Veyil Pookkal
Preserving Culture, Inspiring Futures
Veyil Pookkal was a vibrant summer camp initiative organised by Bread and Book Foundation in collaboration with Suhrut Balabhavan, dedicated to empowering tribal children through learning, creativity, and cultural enrichment. The camp was inaugurated by Padma Shri Lakshmikutty Amma, whose presence and inspiring words added great significance to the programme. Bringing together children from various tribal communities, the camp provided a joyful and nurturing environment where they could learn, explore their talents, build friendships, and create lasting memories through educational, recreational, and cultural activities.
One of the most meaningful aspects of Veyil Pookkal was its commitment to preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of tribal communities. Children were given the opportunity to learn, practice, and celebrate traditional art forms, folk performances, indigenous knowledge, and cultural customs passed down through generations. By reconnecting young minds with their roots, the camp fostered a strong sense of identity, pride, and belonging. More than a summer camp, Veyil Pookkal became a celebration of culture, resilience, and hope—empowering children to embrace their heritage while confidently stepping towards a brighter future.

From Hunger to Hope
Meal Distribution at Hope Community Village
Bread and Book Foundation's Meal Distribution Program at Hope Community Village is a meaningful initiative dedicated to ensuring that children have access to nutritious meals that support their health, growth, and overall well-being. We believe that no child should have to struggle with hunger while pursuing education and building a brighter future. Through this project, BBF sponsors daily meals for the children of Hope Community Village, helping create a stable and nurturing environment where they can learn, grow, and thrive.
The impact of this initiative extends far beyond the meals served. Every plate of food represents dignity, compassion, and a commitment to creating lasting change in the lives of vulnerable children. Through the unwavering support of donors and well-wishers, Bread and Book Foundation has already provided more than 16,200 nutritious meals to the children of Hope Community Village, ensuring consistent nourishment and care for those who need it most.

BBF Learning Centre, Bhopal
Empowering Every Child with the Right to Learn, Dream, and Succeed
For countless children living on the streets and in vulnerable communities across Bhopal, education often remains a distant dream overshadowed by poverty, child labour, and daily survival. To change this reality, Bread and Book Foundation established the BBF Learning Centre, Bhopal—a safe and nurturing space where children from marginalised backgrounds, including ragpickers and child street workers, are given an opportunity to learn, grow, and rediscover their childhood. The centre serves as a bridge between exclusion and opportunity, ensuring that no child is denied the chance to build a better future simply because of the circumstances into which they were born.
At the BBF Learning Centre, children receive foundational education, literacy support, life-skills training, and individual attention tailored to their learning needs. Beyond academics, our team actively engages with families and communities, creating awareness about the importance of education, child protection, health, and personal development. Through continuous guidance and support, out-of-school children are identified, prepared academically, and successfully mainstreamed into formal schools. Every child who walks through our doors carries a story of struggle, but through education, encouragement, and compassion, those stories are being rewritten into stories of hope, dignity, and achievement.

Stories of Change
For the First Time, My Child Holds a Book

In the Hinotiya settlement of Bhopal, education was never part of life. For generations, no child from the Fakir community had ever gone to school. Faizan was one of those children. His mother leaves home every day before sunrise to collect scrap, carrying heavy sacks on her head. When she returned in the afternoon, Faizan would still be waiting — hungry, restless, and unnoticed by the world. When Bread and Book Foundation began its learning centre in the community, Faizan was hesitant. He had never held a pencil before. Slowly, things changed. Today, Faizan can write his name, read simple words, and proudly carries his school bag. With BBF’s support, he was enrolled in a formal school becoming one of the first children in his community to step into a classroom. His mother says quietly, “I never went to school. But now my son will.” For Faizan, education is not just learning it is the beginning of a future his family never imagined.
Hope Reached Srinagar Rural Colony

In Srinagar Rural Colony, daily life is a constant struggle. Most families survive on irregular daily-wage work, and when work is unavailable, hunger quietly enters their homes. Children often miss school — not because they lack interest, but because their families cannot afford notebooks, uniforms, or even proper meals. Many children spend their days helping at home or accompanying their parents to work sites. When Bread and Book Foundation reached Srinagar Rural Colony, the team found children eager to learn but lacking even the most basic resources. Through BBF’s intervention, children began receiving education support, learning materials, and regular engagement activities. Slowly, classrooms filled again — not with fear, but with curiosity. For the first time, children had their own notebooks. For the first time, they were encouraged to dream. One mother shared with tears in her eyes, “We never thought someone would come here only for our children.” Today, children in Srinagar Rural Colony attend learning sessions regularly. Their confidence has grown, their attendance has improved, and their parents now see education as a path out of poverty — not a burden. What began as support has now become hope. Because when education reaches the last home, the future begins to change.
Education Saved Her from a Child Marriage

At just 14 years old, Sunita’s life was about to change forever. In her community, girls are often married early — out of fear, poverty, and social pressure. When her family suspected she might speak to a boy, they began planning her marriage quietly. Through BBF’s regular community visits, the team learned about the situation and intervened. They counselled the family, explained the legal consequences, and most importantly — spoke about Sunita’s right to education. With continuous follow-up and trust-building, the marriage was stopped. Today, Sunita attends the learning centre regularly. She is learning to read and write — something no woman in her family has ever done before. She says, “I want to become someone who can stand on her own.” Because of timely support, Sunita’s childhood was protected — and her future rewritten.
